Our original mission was to reissue books in paperback and digital formats, and that’s still one of our goals. But as of July 2016, we’re also accepting original manuscripts. We’re looking for fiction, memoirs, and nonfiction.
We’re an author-centered small press. We want to keep costs reasonable. So far, we’ve found that it works best all around if authors pay Bacon Press Books and our editors and designers individually. It’s not as complicated as it sounds. And it means authors are fully involved throughout the publication process.
Because we’re small, we can give your book a lot of individual attention. But we can’t provide marketing at the moment. We can offer advice on where to get help.
#1 Original Manuscript
If you have an original manuscript, you will work directly with a cover designer to choose your cover and the back cover copy. You’ll work directly with an interior designer to ensure your book looks how you envision it. And you’ll work directly with an editor - all changes will be based on your approval.
Our aim is to make the dream of publishing your original work a reality without breaking the bank. We strive to keep total publication costs for original work within a reasonable range of around $4500.00–$5,000.00. With a 70% royalty payment to authors on net sales.
This includes ISBNs for paperback eBook versions, a Library of Congress number, and making the book available for sale and distribution through Amazon KDP and Ingram Spark. The author will file for copyright and retain all rights.
#2 Re-Issue
If you’ve got your original manuscript that has been copy-edited by your former publisher, creating paperback and eBook versions should go quickly and smoothly. You’ll still choose your new cover and new interior design. You can rewrite the back cover copy, add reviews to the front of the book, and make minor changes.
About $3000.00. This includes: ISBNs for paperback eBook versions; making the book available for sales and distribution through Amazon KDP and Ingram Spark. This assumes you already hold copyright, have regained all other rights, and that the book already has a Library of Congress number.
Additional changes can be made to the manuscript - additional fees would depend on the scope of the changes requested.
If you have a copy of your book but no longer have the original manuscript, we can scan it. The fee is slightly higher because this will also involve proofreading and will take additional time. Everything else is the same—new cover, new interior, back cover copy as requested, and minor changes.
